Post Rock Welcomes Elliott Brady

August 13, 2020 | Students | By: Jodie Ostmeyer

My name is Elliott Brady. I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. I am working with Dr. Brull, Dr. Maciaszek and Dr. Beth Oller for my family medicine rotation.

Let’s learn a little about Elliott.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas.

Why did you come to Plainville?
I came to Plainville because Dr. Brull was recommended as a great preceptor to connect with and the fact that my grandparents live close by just outside of Natoma! I’ve been visiting the Plainville area my entire life to visit my grandparents.

What do you hope to be when you are out of school?
I hope to match into a family medicine residency. I know I’ll love developing relationships with my patients long-term and preventing chronic diseases. I also have a background in public health and feel family medicine best supports a public health approach by intervening on sickness before it becomes debilitating. There is so much opportunity to live a happy life if we can catch unhealthy behaviors early and identify environmental factors preventing patients from getting quality medical care!

What do you like about shadowing in Plainville?
I’ve worked with Dr. Fisher before while he was in Plainville, but not Dr. Brull. During my time with Dr. Fisher, I appreciated the kind Plainville community and felt physicians had the ability to form their practice to have a quality work-life balance. Happy to be back!

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
Outside medicine, I like running and watching Netflix. I’ve ran a half-marathon, but hope to run a full marathon once we overcome COVID. I also have an 8-month old niece that I love making time for about every week!

What do you hope to learn from your rotation in Plainville?
I hope to get a comprehensive view of rural family medicine. The idea of being an individual capable of “wearing many hats” for the community is inviting for me. I welcome becoming a person that has the capability of helping others in many ways. With my background in public health, I’d love to participate in any public health activities around town!
