Post Rock Family Medicine Welcomes Blake Shinn from WSU this Summer
Blake Shinn will be working with Emily Decker, PA on a 6 week rotation with Wichita State University Physician Assistant Program. Blake started his rotation June 29, 2015 and will end August 6, 2015.
-Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Topeka, KS. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology from Washburn University.
-Why did you come to Plainville?
Although I didn’t have a choice of which small towns in Kansas to visit, we are required to complete a number of rural health rotations. I am very fortunate that Plainville happened to be one of them!
-What do you hope to be when you’re out of school? Why?
Hopefully I can be a PA! I am still undecided on which field of medicine I would like to enter.
-What do you like about shadowing in Plainville?
I love the cohesiveness of the medical team. Everyone here has been super friendly and welcoming. I also like having everything under one roof. It is very convenient for staff, but more importantly the patient.
-What do you like doing outside of medicine?
Outside of school and medicine I like to spend time with my wife, Courtney, and crazy golden retriever, Murphy. I like playing soccer and baseball/softball. I also thoroughly enjoy being a very mediocre golfer. Oh, and of course, anything KU!
-What do you hope to learn from your rotation in Plainville?
Everything? But really, from my rotation in Plainville, I hope to learn a lot more about family medicine. My background prior to PA school was in orthopedics and volunteering at a local underserved clinic. Because of that, this is kind of a new environment for me. I am looking forward to spending 6 weeks here learning from you all.
Thank you for having me!
