With flu season right around the corner, we wanted to share some tips with you about how NOT to get it.  The best way to avoid getting the flu, of course, is to get the influenza vaccine.  Post Rock has plenty of flu vaccine in stock now and you can have your vaccine at any time after it become available each year.  If you haven’t already gotten it, it’s not too late!  You can get vaccinated any time throughout the flu season (well into February).

The vaccine is available by shot or by nasal spray. The vaccines work by exposing your immune system to the flu virus. Your body will build up antibodies to the virus to protect you from getting the flu. The flu shot contains dead viruses. The nasal-spray vaccine contains live but weakened viruses. You cannot get the flu from the flu shot or the nasal-spray vaccine.

You can also reduce your risk of catching the flu by washing your hands frequently, which stops the spread of germs. Eating healthy, exercising and getting enough sleep also play a part in preventing the flu because they help boost your immune system.

Some people who get the vaccine will still get the flu, but they will usually get a milder case than people who aren’t vaccinated. The vaccine is especially recommended for people who are more likely to get really sick from flu-related complications.
