Flu Shot Season is HERE!

Protect yourself, your family and your community from influenza and get your flu shot now!  Influenza is a respiratory illness, not the commonly referred to “stomach flu” which affects the GI system.  The most common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, cough, weakness, fatigue and general discomfort.  People who get influenza often feel healthy up until the point when they become sick, then will feel “like a truck hit me” after symptoms start.  If you contract influenza, you may not be able to return to work for a week or more, so prevention is the best option.

The flu shot cannot give you the flu – it is a killed virus and has no active component.  The flu vaccine is indicated for everyone over the age of 6 months.  New information this year even demonstrates that people with egg allergy can have the flu vaccine.  Children, older adults, and people with chronic disease are at higher risk for complications from influenza and are particularly encouraged to get immunized.  Post Rock Family Medicine is offering flu shots now – call us or walk in during business hours to get yours!
